The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe is a show about the importance of being happy. It's about striving for the ultimate source of happiness first in the struggle for survival, and the least desirable Treasure.
In a few of his most characteristic episodes, Crusoe tells the story of his life in exotic settings, including the North Pole, the South Pole, faraway Africa and 7th century China. As they are told in narration after his arrival on the island, these stories are a revelation of his past and point to considerably more. At the end of the episode, we learn that he is married and raising two children. He states that the story ended there.
The idea that happiness is found in the struggle for survival in the first instance and not in the accumulation of good things lies at the heart of the series. All the characters have been transplanted from the pages of Defoe's novel and given personality and motivation. The central theme of the story is the underlying goodness of man and his attempt to make good use of his life. The central character, a man of almost peasant stock, can nevertheless teach us an important moral lesson about the importance of happiness. Henry Deutschmeister and Robert Mellin have created an entertaining and involving adventure to the ordinary themes of the novel.
